About Joie du Voyage - Joy of the Journey

I'm following my long term dream of retiring in France. I arrived in France June 2015 and moved into my new house on New Year’s Eve. I’m experiencing challenges with ongoing renovations but it hasn’t dampened my spirit. Now I’m settling into life here, joining in the local community, enjoying visits from family and friends, and exploring other areas of France. * My personal motto: Don’t take life too seriously - or eternity too lightly. *

One Thing Leads To Another

I was all set for my next post to be about the progress being made on renovations. Instead it is more a path of discovery. When I looked at the house, before buying it, the realtor told me that the … Continue reading

Auto Retro 2016

Auto Retro is an annual event held in Uzerche each July.  I find it very interesting to see a variety of classic cars from France, around Europe and an occasional American model. This was my second Auto-Retro. The set-up is … Continue reading

A Royal Diversion

I never knew a bird could be so spoiled or a name so unexpectedly accurate. On my way home from the library a few weeks ago I spotted a baby bird on the sidewalk.  The nearest yard is about three … Continue reading

Overcoming Obstacles – It’s all part of the adventure

My first obstacle was my first house! Since work hadn’t progressed, after problems created several years ago by the builders I had hired, I didn’t have a place to live when I arrived. But I knew that before I left … Continue reading
